Anime-style animated sequence for Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Creative Production
Concept and full production of an anime-style animated sequence for Bayer 04 Leverkusen, built as 2D animation in Blender, finished in Adobe After Effects, and composited into real match footage of the club's players.
Led by Sean, the piece began as a concept: what if a Bundesliga goal celebration were drawn the way a shonen anime draws a power-up? From that idea came the character design of the player in the Bayer 04 kit, the transformation sequence, the lightning and energy effects, and a hand-animated shot of a boot striking the ball with sparks flying off it. The 2D animation was built frame by frame in Blender, then brought into After Effects, where the animated layers were composited into live footage of the players celebrating on the pitch, with the lightning effects wrapped around real bodies so that the drawn and the filmed share one frame. The result is matchday content built for social video and fan engagement, where a club competes for attention against every other feed on the phone. A drawn player who glows gets watched.
