Stitch Head
Concept art and storyboards for Stitch Head
Creative Production
Concept art and storyboard work for the animated feature film Stitch Head, from first rough sketch through to boards that the final frames were built from.
Led by Sean, the work shows the distance a single image travels in animation. A castle on a mountain crag began as a few lines of black marker: the spire, the rock, the ridge behind it, a crowd massed at the foot. That sketch fixed the composition, the camera height and the scale of the castle against the mountain, and it became the storyboard frame the production worked from. The finished shot, a lit castle on a forested crag under a storm sky, holds the same composition the sketch set. The role ran from concept through to storyboard, which in animation means deciding what every later department will spend its time on. The sketch is the cheapest version of the film. Every expensive version has to obey it.
